Existing Permits

When a permit has expired or the work is completed, send the appropriate notification to our office. Refer to the situations below to determine what must be submitted to our office or the appropriate person to call for additional information.

All correspondence must include the permit number and the route number and a valid email address. Submit correspondence to our office by mail, fax (703-383-2843), or in person. Location and Hours

Use the Permit Update Request Form for all extension, reinstatement and inspection requests.

Extensions

• All permits are allowed one free extension as long as the permit has not yet expired.

• Permit is not expired and has not been previously extended

• Request permit extension in writing, stating reason(s) extension is required.

• There is no fee

• Permit is expired or has been previously extended

• Request permit reinstatement in writing, stating reason(s) re-instatement is required.

• Include $40.00 processing fee (check or money order)

• Work has been completed

• Request permit inspection in writing

• Include current mailing address for all surety refunds

• Work has not started

• Request permit cancellation in writing

Pavement Open Cut Requests

• Submit completed and signed Pavement Open Cut request

• Include permittee's self addressed envelope with pre-paid

  FedEX or UPS shipping label.

• Include photographs of pavement to be open cut

  (digital are acceptable)

• Include plans (1 copy)

• Include traffic control plans (4 copies)

• Scope of work has changed

• Complete and sign a Revision Application

• For revisions to Site Plan Permits (Fairfax County SP, SD, PI, etc.), please contact Mark Comer at (703) 383-2888.

• For revisions to Residential Permits or Utility Permits, please contact Vera Byrd at (703) 383-2888.

• For revisions to Fiber Optic Permits, please contact Mike Kroskie at (703) 383-2888.

• For Revisions to Fairfax County Public Works or Arlington County Public Works Permits, please contact Imad Salous at (703) 383-2888.
