VDOT Travel Advisory: Slick spots remain on many routes in southwestern Virginia (10 a.m. - Thursday, December 4, 2003)
BRISTOL, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation reports motorists may encounter slick driving conditions when traveling in southwestern Virginia this morning.
·Interstates 81 and 77 have scattered slick spots along the entire corridor, and in Wythe and Carroll counties motorists may encounter snow-covered sections of roadway.
·In Wythe, Tazewell, Smyth and Washington counties, snow patches and slush are reported on the majority of primaries. Be alert to snow-covered conditions on the majority of secondary routes in Smyth and Wythe counties, and on unpaved secondary routes in Tazewell County.
·In Grayson and Bland counties, the majority of routes have snow-covered sections of roadway. Use caution in these areas.
·In Russell County, slick spots are reported on Route 80 between Elk Garden and the Washington County line.
·On Route 58 from Damascus to the Grayson County line, the roadway is snow-covered, slick and hazardous. In the Konnarock area 4-5 inches of snow have been reported.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, maintain a safe distance between vehicles, reduce speed as necessary and be alert to slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.
