CTB approves road contracts in Albemarle, Greene; Madison, Louisa projects also get board approval

The Commonwealth Transportation Board today approved five road projects in Albemarle, Greene, Louisa and Madison counties, valued at an estimated $1.4 million.

In Albemarle County, the board awarded an $184,704 contract to Atkins Excavation of Greenville to widen trenches and pave a 4/10 of a mile segment of West Leigh Drive, Route 1641. The project is expected to be completed this summer.

Also in Albemarle, the board approved a $233,491 contract to Pearson Construction of Dillwyn, Va., to stabilize, including drainage and grading, a sectio of Rt. 737 west of Scottsville. The nearly one-mile long project will begin at Rt. 6 west of the town and end just west of Totier Creek. This project should be completed by the fall.

In Greene County, Rock & Raines Construction of Unionville was awarded the $222,272 contract to widen and stabilize Route 650 near Dyke. The nearly one-mile long project, from Rt. 810 to Rt. 615, will widen the road to 18 feet, including grading and paving. The project is expected to be complete by fall.

The board also approved a $398, 348 contract to J.L. Kent & Sons of Spotsylvania, VA., to widen Route 718 – Proffits Road – to two 18-foot lanes with two-foot wide shoulders. The project will also provide increased drainage to avoid future flooding.

In Madison County, Rock & Raines Construction was awarded the contract to rebuild Route 625, from Rt. 607 to Rt. 726. The $299,299 contract will widen the road to two lanes of 18-feet width, with two feet of shoulders. Construction is to be completed by Nov. 1.
