OLD RIXEYVILLE ROAD TO CLOSE MAY 5 FOR EIGHT MONTHS

Crews working for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Old Rixeyville Road in the Town of Culpeper on Monday, May 5, 2003, to begin work replacing the aging one-lane bridge over Mountain Run.
The road will be closed to through traffic, however residents on both sides of the bridge will be able to access their properties as will students at Culpeper Christian School.
The one lane bridge will be replaced with a two-lane structure that also will carry a sidewalk on one side and a hiking and biking trail on the other side. The new bridge will be approximately 50-foot long to avoid the flooding that occurs in the area.
The $899,577 contract, awarded to General Excavation Inc. of Warrenton, should be completed by the end of this year.
