NEW SECTION OF ROUTE 208 OPENS IN LOUISA

CULPEPER – The construction project relocating a section of Route 208 in Louisa to the east of its former intersection with Route 33/22 reached a milestone today as the newly completed roadway opened to traffic this morning.

Constructed to alleviate some of the traffic congestion around the Louisa County Courthouse, the new road provides three 12-foot lanes: two travel lanes and a center lane for turning. A traffic signal has been installed at the new intersection location.

A connector road between the old and the new section remains to be completed. Until this is done, the old section will be closed to thru traffic. Signs and message boards are in place to advise motorists of the new traffic patterns.

The contractor for the $2.2 million project is Abernathy Construction of Glen Allen.
