UTTERBACK TO LEAD VDOT'S CHARLOTTESVILLE RESIDENCY


   
CULPEPER – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced the appointment of James S. Utterback as administrator for the Charlottesville Residency.
In his new role, he will be the liaison between VDOT and local government entities and will oversee transportation activities in Albemarle and Greene counties and a workforce of approximately 100 employees.
Utterback, a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, joined VDOT in 1999. Most recently, he has been responsible for the management of the Route 58 Corridor Development Program, interacting with local and state leaders, businesses, large contingents of citizens and the media.
Before coming to VDOT, he worked as program manager for an engineering firm in Roanoke. He served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1985 until 1995 and is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve.
Utterback received his Masters Degree in Business from Webster University and is also certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute.
He and his wife, the former Rhonda Mace of Rockbridge County, have two children, Johnny and Scott. The family currently resides in Hanover County.
