I-64 Lane Closure Postponed Due to Bad Weather

CULPEPER – Rain forecast for the weekend has forced the postponement of plans to resurface the left lane of the Interstate 64 bridge over the Rivanna River in Albemarle County (milepost 123).

The contractor, Cleco Corp. of Rosedale, Va, planned to work through the weekend to pour a high-density concrete mixture that will provide a new travel surface for traffic on the bridge. With rain in the forecast for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, Cleco officials decided to cancel the overlay operation.

No work will be performed on the project this weekend and all eastbound lanes will remain open until 7 p.m. Monday, when work will resume and one lane will be closed. The resurfacing of the left lane will be rescheduled in early June, weather permitting.

The bridge rehabilitation project, with a contract award of $747,925, is expected to be completed by late June.
