Crews continue to work to improve road conditions
Crews began treating area roads at the first sign of snow yesterday afternoon.
Overnight snow, sleet and freezing rain has created hazardous travel conditions throughout the 14 county district.
Motorists are encouraged to travel only if necessary and to use extreme caution.
The following road conditions exists throughout the District:
Interstate – passable - some snow on the pavement and icy spots, especially on the ramps and shoulder lanes
Primary Routes – snow covered but passable
Secondary Routes – snow and ice covered – chains or snow tires necessary
Subdivisions – snow and ice covered – chains or snow tires necessary
Crews will continue to work in 12 hour shifts until all roads are passable. Interstate, primary and heavily traveled secondary routes will be given first priority. Once the snow stops and the priority routes are in good shape, crews will then move to less traveled roads and subdivisions.
For statewide road conditions call VDOT’s Highway Helpline at(800)367-ROAD(7623)or visit our website at VirginiaDOT.org
