Additional night needed for Eltham Bridge Testing
FREDERICKSBURG – Testing of the Eltham Bridge’s bascule operating system will continue tonight beginning at 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. The bridge will be closed to traffic. Motorists should use Route 17, Route 360 or I-64 as alternate routes.
Bridge Engineers are be conducting major testing on the functional operation of the bridge’s Bascule operating system. These tests are necessary to insure optimum performance during openings and closings of the span.
The new Eltham Bridge opened to traffic with lane closures in May. Construction is expected to be complete in November.
