FREDERICKSBURG – On Tuesday, August 7, Route 608 (Robert E. Lee Drive) will be closed to thru traffic between Route 613 (Brock Road) and Route 648 (Blockhouse Road). From the Spotsylvania Courthouse area motorists that plan to turn left onto Robert E. Lee Drive will be re-directed approximately 1.1 miles to the intersection of Brock Road and Blockhouse Road make a left and travel approximately 1.1 miles to reconnect with Robert E. Lee Drive. Motorists will be able to access the Isles of Laurel from Brock Road and St. Mathews Church from Blockhouse Road. Access will be maintained to any homes located within the work zone.
This traffic diversion will allow crews to re-grade this section of Robert E. Lee Drive that will tie- in to the new bypass alignment. It is anticipated that by early Spring 2008 motorists will be able to access the bypass from Route 208 and travel thru to the existing four-way stop at the intersection of Robert E. Lee Drive and Blockhouse Road.
Also thru the end of the year, crews will be working to complete the eastern-most portion of the 208 alignment between at the National Park Service entrance to Route 613.
