Two overnight closures are scheduled for the Eltham Bridge next week (Crews will be testing the Bascule operating system

On Tuesday, July 24 and Wednesday, July 25, the Eltham Bridge located on Route 33 at West Point over the Pamunkey River will be closed to traffic overnight.
The bridge will be closed to traffic from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Motorists should use Route 17, Route 360 or I-64 as alternate routes.
Bridge Engineers will be conducting major testing on the functional operation of the bridge’s Bascule operating system. These tests are necessary to insure optimum performance during openings and closings of the span.
The new Eltham Bridge opened to traffic with lane closures in May. Construction is expected to be complete in November.
