FIRST SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON BLANKETS AREA ROADS
Motorists should be alert to slippery conditions
The northward moving storm began to create hazardous conditions in Caroline County and rapidly moved north to Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Crews began treating the interstate and primary routes with chemicals and abrasives at the onset of the storm and will continue throughout the day.
Crews will be diverted to the secondary and subdivision streets as soon as possible.
With snow forecasted to change to a wintry mix this afternoon, motorists are encourage to continue to use extreme caution especially on bridges, overpasses and ramps.
As temperatures fall below freezing in the evening hours motorists should be alert to wet pavement refreezing and becoming slick.
Crews will continue to work 12 hour shifts throughout the night applying chemicals and abrasives as needed.
The following conditions exist in the Fredericksburg area which includes Caroline County:
Interstate - Minor coverage with slushy shoulders, ramps, bridges and overpasses (crews are plowing)
Primary and High volume secondary – Minor coverage with slushy shoulders and turn lanes and some slick spots
- Low volume secondary and subdivisions – moderately covered but passable
