Freeway Incident Response Team to reduce operations

Beginning Saturday, March 1st, the Freeway Incident Response Team will reduce its hours of operation and patrol areas in Hampton Roads. The team will patrol 40 miles of interstate Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. along the following routes:

- I-264:Waterside Drive to Rosemont Road

- I-564:entire stretch

- I-64:Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to Magruder Boulevard

- I-64:I-464 in Chesapeake to the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel

- I-664:Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to the I-64 interchange in Hampton

Based out of the Hampton Roads Smart Traffic Center in Virginia Beach, FIRT drivers provide assistance to emergency responders and motorists during breakdowns, highway incidents, and traffic control around accident scenes.

Because most of the incidents along the interstate system result from roadway debris, flat tires and drivers who run out of gas, motorists are urged to keep their vehicles in good working order.

Area bridges and tunnels will continue assisting motorists and emergency response units around the clock.
