More than $14 million in paving contracts awarded in Hampton Roads
As part of the ongoing commitment to maintain safe roadways, the Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded contracts today totaling $14.8 million for repaving work throughout Hampton Roads in 2003.Various roadways throughout the region will be repaved as six contracts were awarded to three contractors. B.P. Short & Son Paving Co., Inc. of Petersburg received the largest single contract worth about $4.1 million.
Branscome, Inc. of Williamsburg received two separate contracts totaling $4.7 million, and APAC-Virginia, Inc. of Manassas received three contracts worth close to $6 million combined.
In other board action, new traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Jefferson Avenue and St. Thomas Drive and Denbigh Boulevard and Woodside Lane in Newport News. E.H. Ives Corp. of Newport News received contracts for both signal installations.
The historic railroad dock site in the Town of Chincoteague will receive improvements including a new pedestrian and bicycle trail along Maddox Boulevard along with piers, a boardwalk, an embankment and an overhead trellis. Fisher Marine Construction, Inc. of Chincoteague received a $234,271 contract for the project that is part of a Transportation Enhancement Grant previously awarded.
The 17-member CTB appointed by the Governor meets on the third Thursday of each month. The board is primarily responsible for locating routes, approving construction contracts, creating traffic regulations, naming highways and administering and allocating for the Transportation Trust Fund.
