New Dedicated Exit Ramp to I-64 West Will Allow Contractor to Widen Roadway
HAMPTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will shift traffic headed southbound on Mercury Boulevard one lane to the left before morning rush hour on Monday, August 22, 2005. Early Monday morning, the previously closed far left lane that runs parallel to Coliseum Mall will open to carry traffic through the construction area. The current right lane will become an exit only lane onto I-64 West.
This project change will shift all southbound traffic traveling through the construction area to the left, giving the contractor room to construct new lanes and ramp entrances underneath Mercury Boulevard Bridge. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained through the construction zone at all times. These two lanes will be shifted back to the right as motorists pass underneath Mercury Boulevard Bridge.
This work is part of the I-64 Central Coliseum Highway Improvement Project in Hampton. For more information about this traffic shift, please visit the project website at www.I64info.com.
