THIRD LANE OPENED ON I-64 WESTBOUND IN HAMPTON
New Lane from Cunningham Drive to End of Project is Second of Four Milestones

HAMPTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor E.V. Williams opened a third, permanent through lane on I-64 westbound in the Coliseum Central Highway Improvement Project on Friday June 24. Opening a third westbound through lane from the Cunningham Drive overpass through the western limits of construction is the second of four schedule milestones VDOT and the contractor have committed to meeting. This milestone was scheduled to be met no later than July 7th.

Plans to close the entrance ramp from Mercury Boulevard onto I-64 westbound one night this week have been postponed. Instead, the ramp will close between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. either Monday or Tuesday of next week, depending upon the weather. The ramp closure will allow crews to reset the traffic pattern in that area to allow for construction of new pavement from the Mercury Boulevard Bridge to the Cunningham Drive overpass.

During the temporary closure, traffic will be directed down Coliseum Drive to Hampton Roads Center Parkway to the next available entrance onto I-64 westbound.
