VDOT REOPENS ONE LANE OF ROUTE 671 AFTER SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY TRAIN COLLISSION
SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) re-opened one lane of Route 671 in Southampton County this afternoon at 2 p.m. The road was closed early Thursday morning after two CSX freight trains collided. Crews are working to clean up fuel spills and several loads of stone that spilled after the crash.
“We’re taking precautions to ensure the safety of both the workers involved and motorists that use the highway, said Joe Lomax, VDOT Franlin Residency Administrator. “We hope to have all of 671 open by late Friday afternoon.
Traffic is being detoured onto Routes 650 and 35 during the cleanup.
