VDOT TO DETOUR TRAFFIC AT I-95/ROUTE 58 EMPORIA INTERCHANGE NEXT WEEK FOR PAVING
Work will be done overnight to minimize the impact to motorists

EMPORIA -- The busy I-95/Route 58 interchange will get a smoother riding surface next week during a four-day project to improve the on and off ramps. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) contractor VMS Inc. will begin paving the interchange at 9 p.m. on Monday, September 26 and work from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Friday morning, September 30.

VDOT will use electronic message signs and other traffic control devices to guide motorists through the area while different ramps are closed for paving. A total of six on and off ramps that provide access to Route 58 and I-95 will be paved on the interchange by next Friday, September 30.

“This is an important interchange, especially for the trucking industry. It’s important that these lanes are well maintained and in good condition, which this project will ensure,” said Joe Lomax, VDOT Franklin Residency Administrator.

To minimize the impact to motorists, work is scheduled overnight, during non-peak travel hours. All work is weather dependent. For more information about road closures or other VDOT projects, please visit www.VirginiaDOT.org.
