VDOT TO HOLD MEETING ABOUT MILITARY HIGHWAY WIDENING IN NORFOLK

NORFOLK – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a citizens information meeting on Wednesday, March 9 about the proposed widening of Military Highway (Routes 13/165) between Lowery Road and Robin Hood Road in Norfolk.

The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Norfolk Technical Vocational Center located at 1330 North Military Highway in Norfolk. Citizens can speak with representatives from VDOT and the City of Norfolk and review design proposals during this open forum meeting.

The widening project is estimated to cost $48 million and extends from Lowery Road to Robin Hood Road. The widening includes intersection improvements at Princess Anne Boulevard/Northampton Boulevard and Military Highway. Construction could begin in late 2009.

Proposed improvements to the roadway include adding three lanes in each direction with a raised grass median, landscaping, bike lanes, and improved turning lanes at intersections.
