VDOT to hold public hearing on Route 17 Widening in York County

VDOT to host meeting on upcoming George Washington Memorial Highway project

YORK COUNTY – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing Tuesday, March 8 on the Route 17-George Washington Memorial Highway widening project in York County. The public hearing will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grafton High School, 403 Grafton Drive in Yorktown.

The proposed widening will occur on Route 17 between Route 134 (Hampton Highway) and Route 630 (Wolf Trap Road). The improvements include widening from four lanes to six lanes with three travel lanes in each direction, intersection improvements, additional turn lanes, and a shared use recreational path. Additional travel lanes will decrease congestion throughout the area, and provide a safer roadway for motorists.

Representatives from VDOT and York County will be available to discuss the project, answer questions and gather input from the public about this project. The meetings are an open format style with no formal presentation. Citizens are invited to attend at their convenience, ask questions and offer comments for the record.

Citizens unable to attend the participation meeting may also submit comments via mail. Instructions for submitting comments are posted on the project Web site.
