VDOT HOSTS NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVE WORKSHOP FOR IRONBOUND/MONTICELLO AND NEW TOWN AREA IN WILLIAMSBURG
Press invited to preview the results of workshop, Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 11:30 a.m.

WILLIAMSBURG— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host the first Neighborhood Initiative Workshop in the Commonwealth to review, develop and recommend the most feasible pedestrian and bicycle facilities for the Route 615 (Ironbound Road) and Route 321 (Monticello Avenue) project. We invite the press to attend a preview of the results from this workshop on October 3 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

At the workshop, local and state officials and representatives from the public will work hand and hand to develop a successful pedestrian design for this area while taking into account safety, education, enforcement and encouragement. Potential short-term and long-term solutions will also be addressed for the intersection.

WHO: Representatives from VDOT, The City of Williamsburg, James City County and The College of William and Mary

WHAT: Invitation-only workshop for the development of pedestrian and bicycle facilities associated with Route 615 (Ironbound Road) and Route 321 (Monticello Avenue) project.

WHY: A first of its kind in Virginia, this Neighborhood Initiative Workshop will allow local champions to provide first-hand input in the design of the pedestrian and bicycle projects that will be constructed to serve their community.
