VDOT IMPROVES ROAD SURFACE FOR ISLE OF WIGHT MOTORISTS

ISLE OF WIGHT – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has made a smoother path for Isle of Wight County motorists traveling on Campbell’s Chapel Road in Carrolton. The project was completed 58 days ahead of schedule at a $39,767.49 savings for state taxpayers.

VDOT crews worked with Suffolk-based Blair Brothers to complete the Rural Rustic project last week, which included leveling and paving the approximately one-mile dirt road and improving drainage. The contract was awarded for $334,788; however, crews were able to keep the cost at $295,020, a 12 percent savings.

“Not only will motorists benefit from a newly-paved, leveled road and better drainage,” said Tommy Lindsay, Rural Construction Manager for VDOT, “but they can also take comfort that we brought this project in ahead of schedule and under budget.”

Work started on the project on April 17 and was originally scheduled for completion on June 30.
