VDOT OPENS NEW LANE ON I-64

Chesapeake – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor E.V. Williams opened a new lane as part of the I-64 Battlefield Boulevard Project today. The far left lane on I-64 eastbound extends from the 464 Interchange towards the High Rise Bridge. The lane creates an additional half-mile for motorists.

“We are pleased that we were able to finish the lane earlier than originally anticipated.” said Michael Johnson, VDOT’s Project Manager for the I-64 Battlefield Boulevard Project. “The extra lane should help decrease congestion along this section of I-64.” The lane was originally scheduled for completion in summer, 2007.

This work is part of the I-64 Battlefield Boulevard construction project scheduled to be finished in July 2009. Motorists can visit www.i64info.com for more information or to sign up for weekly e-mail updates, see construction progress and learn about any lane closures or traffic switches. Motorists can also call 511 or listen to 610AM for up-to-date traffic reports.
