VDOT TO START WORK ON ROUTE 40 BLACKWATER RIVER BRIDGE

WAVERLY— Motorists who use the Route 40 Blackwater River Bridge in Waverly should expect delays as Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews prepare to begin upgrading the structure.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 1, VDOT started installing signs and closed one lane on the 200-foot bridge. The signs will alert motorists to the new traffic pattern and vehicle restrictions. Motorists should be advised that the bridge has a 10-foot width restriction. Route 31 is an alternate route.

The new traffic pattern will remain in place as work starts next Friday, Dec. 8 and throughout the project. Work will be completed by May 2008. Bryant Contracting of Toano was awarded the contract.
