DOWNTOWN TUNNEL OPEN THIS WEEKEND
Tile work postponed to schedule additional repairs
NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH — The I-264 Downtown Tunnel will remain open this weekend (Feb. 10 & 11) while the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reschedules maintenance of the ceiling tiles. The remaining tile replacement was postponed until after crews complete repairs to a damaged section of the ceiling.
The ceiling tiles provide a reflective surface to light the tunnel and are heat resistant to help fires from spreading into the ventilation system.
For more information about this or other VDOT maintenance, motorists can tune into 610AM, dial 511 or visit www.VDOT.Virginia.gov. Motorists are also encouraged to call VDOT's new Hampton Roads TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 for the Highway Advisory Radio transmission from 610AM and to access bridge and tunnel information.
