MONTICELLO AVENUE PROJECT NOW COMPLETE
Contract completed on-time and on-budget

WILLIAMSBURG –Starting today, area motorists will benefit from significant safety improvements at a local busy intersection near the College of William and Mary. Crews from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and local contractor Branscome Incorporated completed upgrading the intersection of Monticello Avenue (Route 321) and Ironbound Road (Route 615) in James City County near Williamsburg on-time and on-budget.

The Monticello Avenue Project included intersection improvements at the crossing of Ironbound Road as well as grading, drainage and asphalt paving operations. A new oversized traffic island and new traffic signal will help improve the intersection and also beautify the approach to Colonial Williamsburg.

“The improvements that have been made will not only improve the safety and functionality of this intersection, it will also help the local economy by enhancing the appeal and beauty of the area,” says Tom Druhot, VDOT’s Peninsula Area Construction Engineer. “This was an excellent example of cooperation with the City of Williamsburg, College of William and Mary, James City County and VDOT. All parties were instrumental in making this project a success.”

Branscome Incorporated started work in May 2006 and completed the project on the scheduled completion date of March 7, 2007. The contract was also completed for the original construction budget of $2.1 million.
