VDOT TO CHANGE PAVEMENT MARKINGS AT DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
NORFOLK— The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will change the pavement markings at the Interstate 264 West Downtown tunnel exit from single “skip” white lines to double solid white lines on April 10.
This modification is expected to improve traffic flow by restricting vehicles in the far-left lane from merging right at the exit to Effingham street. Crossing solid double white lines is prohibited. Approximately 1200 feet of double white lines will extend from the existing solid single line past the Effingham Street exit. The right lane will be closed from approximately 8:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in order to complete this work.
The alternate schedule for completing this work in case of rain is April 12.
To minimize the impact on motorists, VDOT is conducting this work during off-peak travel hours. For more information about this closure or other VDOT maintenance, motorists can tune into 610AM, dial 511 or visit www.VDOT.Virginia.gov. Motorists can also call VDOT's new Hampton Roads TrafficLine at 757-361-3016 for the Highway Advisory Radio transmission from 610AM and to access bridge and tunnel information.
