VDOT Begins Soil Tests for Future Route 460 Project
Soil evaluations will help with construction planning

SUFFOLK – Residents along Route 460 may notice crews working on the side of the road in upcoming weeks. The Virginia Department of Transportation is conducting geotechnical investigations by taking soil samples between Interstate 295 in Prince George County and the Suffolk bypass (U.S. 58).

The samples will be used by engineers to design the future re-alignment of Route 460.

The tests should not interfere with traffic.

In some cases, it may be necessary for workers to enter private property to access one or more proposed borehole locations.

Property owners will receive prior notification and every effort will be made to restore the area and minimize the time spent on private property.

Approximately 30 days after samples are taken, a member of the soil survey crew will return to inspect the borehole locations.
