SPEED LIMIT CHANGES COMING TO PORTIONS OF ROUTE 360

Motorists on US 360 in Halifax, Charlotte and Prince Edward Counties should take a second look at the speed limit signs on this major east-west highway. Changes are in the works.

In accordance with Senate Bill 408, passed by the 2004 General Assembly, traffic studies have been conducted on Route 360 in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) from the intersection of Route 58 in Halifax County to the Nottoway County line. These studies were undertaken to determine if maximum speeds of 65 or 60 miles per hour would be appropriate on portions of the road.

The speed limit will be increased to 60 miles per hour (mph) at the following locations beginning July 12, 2004:

Route 360, Halifax County:
· From 0.14 miles west of Rt. 854 to 0.37 miles west of Rt. 344 east- and westbound lanes (6.25 miles)
· From 0.30 miles east of Rt. 344 east- and westbound lanes to Charlotte County line (7.62 miles)

Route 360, Charlotte County:
· From Halifax County line to Rt. 15 & Rt. 611 intersection (6.50 miles)
· Rt. 15 & Rt. 712 interchange to Prince Edward County line (1.75 miles)

Route 15/360 – Keysville Bypass, Charlotte County:
· From Rt. 360 & Rt. 611 interchange to 0.20 miles east of Business Rt. 15/360 & Rt. 622 intersection (10.68 miles)
· From 0.45 miles west of Rt.15 & Rt. 712 intersection to Rt. 15 & Rt. 712 intersection (0.45 miles)

Route 360 – Prince Edward County:
· From Charlotte County line to 0.14 miles east of Rt. 729 (4.85 miles)
· From 0.02 miles west of the N&W Overpass to 0.33 miles west of Rt. 696 (2.54 miles)
· From Rt. 696 to 0.26 miles east of Rt. 623 (0.48 miles)
· From 0.26 miles east of Rt. 623 to Nottoway County line (5.09 miles)

A 65 mph speed limit will be in place on Route 15/360 – Keysville Bypass, Charlotte County, from 0.20 miles east of Business Rt. 15/350 & Rt. 622 interchange to 0.45 miles west of Rt. 15 & Rt. 712 intersection, a distance of 4.76 miles
