SPEED LIMIT TO BE RAISED AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS 65 mph speed limit signs go up
LYNCHBURG – Motorists will begin to notice new speed limit signs at various locations in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) over the next several weeks. The speed limit will be raised from 55 miles per hour (mph) to 65 mph at various limited access locations meeting the criteria set in Senate Bill 408 passed by the General Assembly earlier this year.
“We will begin phasing in the signs in the northern part of the District,” says B. C. Pierce, District Traffic Engineer. “The first signs will be placed on US 460 between the US 501 intersection and the Wildwood Subdivision area. The current 45 mph zone near Wildwood will remain in effect.”
Other areas currently awaiting the installation of 65 mph signs include the US 460 bypasses of Appomattox and Farmville, as well as the US 29 bypasses of Altavista, Gretna, Chatham and the US 29 and US 58 bypasses of Danville. The new US 29 bypass of Madison Heights will be considered for a 65 mph speed limit when complete.
