Commonwealth Transportation Board Awards $5.4 Million for Beulah Street Project
The Commonwealth Transportation Board today awarded a $5.4 million contract for the final phase of the widening of Beulah Street in southern Fairfax County between Franconia Road and the Franconia Springfield Parkway, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.Construction is expected to begin early next year. This 1.3-mile section of Beulah Street is being widened from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a raised median, curb, gutter and sidewalks on both sides. It will also include turn lanes.
Approximately 13,000 vehicles a day travel Beulah Street in the area between Franconia Road and the Springfield Franconia Parkway. By 2010, traffic volumes are expected to increase to 28,000 vehicles per day.
Martin and Gass, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia is the contractor for the project.
