VDOT Re-Opens Potterton Drive Bridge on December 12 New bridge eases ingress/egress for residents

The Virginia Department of Transportation will officially re-open a new bridge over Lake Barcroft at Potterton Drive on December 12, providing area residents with easier access to Route 7 in Fairfax County.

VDOT funded the $1.327 million safety improvement project and work began in May of this year. The bridge opened to traffic on November 8th.

In addition to the new bridge with 12-foot travel lanes, the project also added a pedestrian sidewalk, and safety railings. The project also included approach roadway work that improved drainage, traffic safety controls and roadway pavement improvements. The work was completed on time and under budget according to VDOT.

The new 114-foot structure features a pre-stressed concrete slab and replaces two concrete drainage pipes and an earthen dam structure that served as access into and out of the community.

Approximately 3,000 vehicles a day travel Potterton Drive in this area

Moore Brothers Incorporated of Verona, Virginia is the contractor for the project.
