Traffic Advisory: Expect Major Traffic Delays on Rolling Road Oct. 20-27

Rolling Road in Springfield will be reduced from two lanes to one lane between Edinburg Drive and Fullerton Road, Oct. 20-27 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists should expect major delays during rush hours and are encouraged to take alternate routes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The closure is necessary as crews complete construction to realign the intersection at Rolling Road, Fullerton Road and Edinburgh Drive. The $1 million improvement project will increase capacity and relieve congestion created by the Springfield Interchange Improvement project. When the intersection is completed next month, motorists will have additional turn lanes and the connection to Fullerton road will re-open.

Beginning Monday, crews will mill and remove the old pavement and add 11 inches of new road material to allow a seamless transition from the old roadway to the new.

“This is the last major hurdle before the project is completed,” said John DePasquale, VDOT construction engineer.
