Traffic Advisory: Silverbrook Road Detour at Route 123 Begins March 8 Route 123 widening

Following the morning rush hour on Monday, March 8, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close Silverbrook Road at its intersection with Route 123 in Fairfax County until April 15. Motorists will not be able to access Route 123 from Silverbrook Road or access Silverbrook Road from Route 123.

All lanes on Route 123 will remain open; however, Silverbrook Road will be closed for approximately 1,200 feet between Route 123 and Old Barrington Boulevard. The closure will allow crews to widen Silverbrook Road to two lanes in each direction.

Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure. Southbound Route 123 motorists heading to Silverbrook Road will use Lee Chapel Road to the Fairfax County Parkway to Hooes Road to Silverbrook Road. Northbound Route 123 motorists heading to Silverbrook Road can use Lorton Road or Furnace Road to Hooes Road to Silverbrook Road. Silverbrook Road motorists heading to Route 123 will be detoured at Hooes Road.

The work is part of the Route 123 Improvement Project. VDOT is widening Route 123 to a four-lane divided highway from Lee Chapel Road to the Occoquan River. The eight-mile widening is being done in four phases.
