Construction Begins Next Month on Two Road Projects
The Commonwealth Transportation Board today awarded a $14.2 million contract to widen 1.2 miles of Route 1 between Armistead Road and Telegraph Road in Fairfax County. Work is set to begin mid-February and will be completed November 2005, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Route 1 between Lorton Road and Armistead Road will be widened from a four-lane divided highway to a six-lane divided highway with a multipurpose trail on the east side of Route 1. Route 1 between Lorton and Telegraph Road will have seven lanes, three northbound and four southbound. The additional southbound lane will be a dedicated turn lane with multiple entrance and exit points. A sidewalk and a multipurpose trail will be constructed on the west side of Route 1.
Martin & Gass, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia is the contractor for the project.
The CTB awarded a $3.46 million contract to Tavares Concrete Company, Inc. of Lorton for improvements to a .75-mile section of Richmond Avenue in the City of Manassas. Richmond Avenue will be widened and improved from Dumfries Road to Nagel Street. The project will add a lane in each direction, a sidewalk on the south side and a paved bike trail on the north side. Work is set to begin mid-February and will be completed July 2005.
