Traffic Advisory: Lane Closure on Southbound Glebe Road in Arlington County Month-long project will cause delays
Beginning October 11 through mid-November, motorists and truckers are urged to avoid southbound Glebe Road in Arlington County between I-395 and Shirlington Road while crews replace the crumbling right travel lane on the half-mile section. The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the southbound right lane weekdays from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.To avoid significant delays, particularly during rush hours, VDOT urges motorists to use alternate routes during the month-long closure.
“The concrete roadway has deteriorated to the point where repaving lasts less than a year before new cracks form,” said Debra Odom, VDOT maintenance engineer. “Closing the lane 14 hours each day, will allow crews to complete the work as quickly as possible while maintaining compliance with the county noise ordinance.”
Crews will excavate the roadway 30 inches, remove the underlying concrete roadway and fill it with stone and asphalt. The new roadway will be entirely asphalt.
Virginia Paving is the contractor for the $575,000 reconstruction project.
