Over the next several weeks, several railroad crossings in Prince William County will be closed and traffic will be detoured, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The closures will allow Norfolk Southern to replace railroad ties and tracks.

The following roads will be closed at their intersections with railroad crossings:

· Bethlehem Road: July 22, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Balls Ford Road: July 28, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
· Jefferson Street: Aug. 4, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
· Wellington Road: 9 a.m. Aug. 6 to 8 a.m. Aug. 7
· Gallerher Road: 8 p.m. Aug. 20 to 8 a.m. Aug. 21

VDOT will take advantage of the closures to make improvements to the at-grade crossings on Bethlehem Road, Jefferson Street and Gallerher Road. Crews will install concrete crossing panels and new asphalt to slightly raise the roadway and smooth the ride for motorists

.Detour signs will be posted prior to the road closures.
