VDOT Retimes Signals for Holiday Shoppers
To keep shoppers and traffic moving during the busiest shopping days of the year, the Virginia Department of Transportation has once again implemented its special holiday signal timing plan for over a dozen Northern Virginia shopping malls.
The timing plans are in effect now and will continue through New Year’s Day.
“VDOT developed a customized signal timing plan for 165 signals in the vicinity of 13 major shopping centers throughout Northern Virginia,” said Mark Hagan, manager of VDOT’s Smart Traffic Signal System. “The holiday timing plans are designed to safely move vehicles entering and exiting the shopping malls while at the same time maintaining traffic flow on major roads.”
Since 1999, VDOT has assisted 13 shopping malls by retiming signals during the holidays.
