Traffic Detour on Washington Boulevard Oct. 9-11

Both the north and southbound travel lanes on Washington Boulevard/ will be completely closed to traffic between North Wise Street and 2nd Street in Arlington from 8p.m. to 5a.m. Oct. 9, 10 and 11, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

In addition to a total closure of Washington Boulevard, westbound Route 50 will be reduced to one lane, west of Perishing Drive to Washington Boulevard (Route 27) from 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 10 until 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 11. The same closure will take place the following evening 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 11 until 5 a.m. Thursday, October 12.

The lane closures will allow crews to safely hoist and install concrete bridge beams as part of Route 50 bridge rehabilitation project.

Roadway message signs along Route 27 are in place warning motorists of the upcoming road closure and detour. The detour route will be well marked to aid motorists not familiar with the area.

The $6.5 million Route 50 bridge rehabilitation project started in November 2005 and will be completed in July 2007.
