VDOT RESTORES TRAFFIC TO ROUTE 301 OVER KERSEY CREEK

HANOVER—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has restored traffic to the Route 301 bridge over Kersey Creek 10 days ahead of its expected repair schedule. The bridge had been closed since Tropical Storm Gaston washed it away Aug. 30. The temporary one-way bridge is open to all standard vehicles and legal loads, with a signal controlling alternating northbound and southbound traffic.

In an effort to minimize the inconvenience to motorists, VDOT and Corman Construction, Inc. developed a plan to install this 120-foot temporary bridge, while crews design and construct a permanent two-lane replacement. Design of the permanent replacement structure is well underway, with the goal of restoring two-way traffic in approximately six months.

“Because of close cooperation between VDOT staff, Corman Construction, Inc., utility companies and adjacent landowners, we were able to come up with this innovative method to restore traffic to this area in a very short amount of time,” said Rob Crandol resident engineer for Hanover County. “We realize this has been a major inconvenience to motorists and we appreciate their continued patience as we restore this roadway to its original condition.”
