ROUTE 360 SPEED LIMIT INCREASING IN AMELIA
VDOT installing new signs today
AMELIA COUNTY, Va. — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is increasing the speed limit on a one and one-half mile stretch of Route 360 in Amelia County. The speed limit increase, from 55 to 60 miles per hour, matches the current speed limit on Route 360 from the Nottoway/Amelia county line.
The section being increased begins about one-fifth mile west of the Route 360 Business west intersection to one-third mile west of Route 609. The speed limit increase was the result of previous legislation that allowed increased speed limits on four lane divided portions of Route 360. VDOT crews will be installing the new signs starting in Amelia County this morning.
VDOT recommended increasing the speed limit after reviewing federal criteria, including speed samples, and consulting with Virginia State Police to determine the safety impacts of an increased speed limit. The Virginia State Police will enforce the speed limit change once the new speed limit signs are in place.
