VDOT Completes Lunenburg Road Project This Week More Than Three Months Ahead of Schedule
LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va.—The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues to improve its delivery of on-time and on-budget construction and maintenance projects, completing an $865,000 road improvement project on Monday along Owl Creek Road (Route 688) in Lunenburg County 92 days ahead of schedule and on-budget.“We are extremely pleased to complete this project on budget and approximately three months ahead of schedule,” said VDOT’s Acting Amelia Residency Administrator Billy Smith. “The contractor and VDOT’s project delivery team worked together toward a common goal; to provide a safer and smoother riding surface for the traveling public both quickly and within budget.”
Contractor, Lanco Paving, Inc. began reconstruction and surface treatment of this 2.4 mile rural road in early March with a projected completion date of October 1. During construction, crews worked aggressively under favorable weather conditions to improve the riding surface, vertical and horizontal alignment and drainage. In June, the road was closed to through traffic in order to replace a large pipe. Traffic delays were minor.
