TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES FIVE CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT MORE THAN $4.3 MILLION

RICHMOND— Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner David Ekern approved five contracts today valued at more than $4.3 million for central Virginia construction and maintenance.

Richard L. Crowder Construction, Inc. of Petersburg, Virginia was awarded a $2 million contract to reconstruct and improve sight distance on Lamore Dr. (Rt. 630) in Prince George County. According to 2005 traffic counts, approximately 1,700 motorists use this road per day. Project completion is expected by May 2009.

Blakemore Construction Corp. of Richmond, Virginia was awarded a $1.1 million contract to apply 15.5 miles of asphalt overlay to Cosby Mill Rd. (Rt. 638), Quaker Rd. (Rt. 611), Dispatch Rd. (Rt. 613) and Old Church Rd. (Rt. 606) in New Kent County. They will also add shoulder stone, upgrade guardrails and install pavement markings. Completion is expected by Sept. 2008.

Oglesby Construction, Inc. of Norwalk, Ohio was awarded two contracts totaling more than $1.1 million.

·         $760,000 contract to install pavement markings along interstate, primary and secondary roads in Henrico, Charles City, New Kent, Goochland, Hanover, Caroline, King William and Westmoreland counties. Lane closure restrictions will be imposed for this work to reduce impact on motorists. Completion is expected in Oct. 2008.

·         $387,000 contract to install pavement markings along interstate, primary and secondary roads in Prince George, Chesterfield, Amelia, Nottoway and Powhatan counties. Lane closure restrictions will be imposed for this work to reduce impact on motorists. Completion is expected in Oct. 2008.

Slurry Pavers, Inc. of Glen Allen, Virginia was awarded a $56,000 contract to apply pavement sealant to the Fordson Rd. Park & Ride commuter lot in Henrico County. Completion is expected in June 2008.
