TRANSPORTATION COMMISSIONER APPROVES NINE CENTRAL VIRGINIA CONTRACTS VALUED AT $2.7 MILLION

Freyssinet, LLC of Chantilly, Virginia was awarded a $672,000 contract to rehabilitate the 48-year-old Route 46 bridge, located ¼ mile south of Lawrenceville in Brunswick County. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of the bridge. Construction will be performed in two stages requiring a one-way traffic pattern and a short detour for Rt. 58 Business travelers. This will result in minimal delays. Rehabilitation work is expected to be complete in May 2008.

Lee Hy Paving Corporation of Glen Allen, Virginia was awarded a $511,000 contract to overlay existing pavement with asphalt along secondary routes in Hanover and Goochland counties to include Routes 623, 653 and 1036. Lane closures will be necessary during the work. Overlay in Hanover County will be restricted to 6-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Paving is expected to be complete in June 2008.

Wunna Contracting Corporation of Centreville, Virginia was awarded two contracts totaling $438,000 to repair and perform preventative maintenance work on four bridges in Petersburg and Dinwiddie County.

1. A $63,000 contract was awarded to rehabilitate the Hayden Road (Rt. 327) bridge over Service Road on the Virginia State University campus in Petersburg. The bridge connects the main campus with their facilities office and academic buildings. The purpose of this project is to extend the service life of the bridge until arrangements can be made to replace the bridge with an at-grade crossing. The bridge work is expected to be complete by late April 2008.
2. A $375,000 contract was awarded to reconstruct three bridges in Dinwiddie County: Rt. 612 over the Nottoway River, Rt. 619 over Sappony Creek and Rt. 659 over the Horsepen Branch. Traffic detours may be necessary. Completion is expected in June 2008.

Selco Construction Services, Inc. of Swords Creek, Virginia was awarded a $429,000 contract to upgrade guardrail along I-85 in Dinwiddie County and I-64 in Goochland County. This is part of a district wide effort to replace guardrail to meet current standards and to improve motorist safety. The project is expected to be complete in May 2008.

Payne’s Parking Designs, Inc. of Bealeton, Virginia was awarded a $210,000 contract to install pavement markers at the following locations:

• I-85 north/south in Dinwiddie and Brunswick counties
• I-64 east/west in Goochland, Henrico and New Kent counties
• I-295 south in Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield counties
• Various primary routes in Amelia, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Mecklenburg, Chesterfield, Goochland, Henrico, Prince George and Hanover counties

Lane closures will be required. The project is expected to be complete in May 2008.

Elderlee, Inc. of York, Pennsylvania was awarded an $189,000 contract to replace four signs and structures along Rt. 10 and Rt. 288 in Chesterfield County, and I-64 in Henrico County. Temporary lane closures will be required during work. The project is expected to be complete in Nov. 2008.

Colony Construction, Inc. of Powhatan, Virginia was awarded a $140,000 contract to rehabilitate existing drainage pipes along Rt. 636 in Amelia County and Routes 655, 711 and 716 in Lunenburg County. Most work will require traffic detours during the rehabilitation. The project is expected to be complete in May 2008.

DLB, Inc. of Hillsville, Virginia was awarded a $77,000 contract to replace drainage pipes in two locations: Route 10 just west of Stage Road (Rt. 609) in Prince George County and McKenney Highway (Rt. 40) just west of Old White Road (Rt. 610) in Dinwiddie County. The work is expected to be complete in May 2008.
