VDOT COMPLETES ROAD PROJECT IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AND UNDER BUDGET
The Virginia Department of Transportation’s construction project to improve a one mile section of Route 615 (Webb Mountain Road) in Franklin County is completed, and it came in ahead of schedule and under budget. The project entailed widening the one mile, gravel section of Route 615 that begins one mile north of the Route 684 intersection. Work included grading, applying surface treatment and installing drainage structures.
VDOT’s contractor, A.R. Coffey and Sons of Buchanan, finished the road project three weeks early. With an anticipated completion date of May 21, 2004, VDOT accepted the completed project on April 30. Work began in August 2003.
The final cost of the project was $351,534, an amount that was 4.7% under budget.
“This project should definitely improve safety and access on Route 615,” says Mel Quesenberry, VDOT’s resident engineer for Rocky Mount Residency.
Quesenberry attributes the success of completing the project ahead of time and under budget to the good working relationship with the contractor.
“This is just another example of excellent team work between the contractor, A.R. Coffey and Sons, and the VDOT employees in the Rocky Mount Residency Office,” he explains.
VDOT’s team included Jim Lovell, assistant resident engineer; Leo Whitenack, contract administrator; Curtis Holland, project inspector; and Craig Amos, inspector.
