VDOT HOSTS COMMUNITY MEETING FOR UPCOMING ROADWORK ALONG INTERSTATE 81

The Virginia Department of Transportation is hosting an informal community meeting to discuss an upcoming construction project on Interstate 81 at Exit 109 in Montgomery County. This purpose of the project is to make safety improvements on the northbound I-81 ramp and crossover at the Route 177 interchange. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2005 at an estimated cost of $681,000.

The community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, from 4 to 6 p.m., at VDOT’s Christiansburg Residency Office, located at 105 Cambria Street in Christiansburg.

The construction project includes the following improvements:

· The grade of the off-ramp from northbound I-81 onto eastbound Route 177 will be lowered approximately one foot.

· The grade of the on-ramp from westbound Route 177 onto northbound I-81 will be raised approximately two feet.

· The on-ramp also will be realigned, and the existing dual crossover will be reconstructed as a single crossover.

All work on this project will be done within the right of way along I-81. No private property will be impacted.

Anyone with questions about the project can attend the community meeting. VDOT representatives will be present to explain the project.

The community meeting will be “open house style.” No formal presentation will be made, and interested citizens may attend at their convenience.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting or needing additional information may call VDOT’s Christiansburg Residency Office at (540) 381-7200. (TDD users, call 711.)
