WIDE LOADS DETOURED FROM SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 81 ONTO ROUTE 460 IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY
One lane of southbound Interstate 81 closed for shoulder patching

A wide load detour is currently in place on southbound Interstate 81 in Montgomery County to avoid a work zone at mile marker 128.  Wide load traffic is being routed onto Route 11/460 at exit 132 (Dixie Caverns) in Montgomery County and will be re-routed onto I- 81 at exit 118 (Christiansburg).  The detour is expected to continue throughout the day and may impact traffic into the evening hours.

The right lane of southbound I-81 is closed today at mile marker 128 near the Ironto exit for bridge shoulder patching.  The patching is being performed in this area as part of the ongoing work on the bridges over the South Fork of the Roanoke River at mile marker 128.  A long term work zone has been established and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph in this area.  Motorists should use caution and expect delays in this area.
