Transportation Board Awards Five Road Construction Contracts

RICHMOND – The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded five construction contracts for road and bridge improvements in Virginia. The CTB awarded the following contracts during its meeting in Richmond today:

Route 33 bridge, New Kent County & West Point
Tidewater Skanska, Inc. of Norfolk was awarded an $89 million contract to replace a deficient two-lane bridge on Route 33 over the Pamunkey River with a four-lane bridge. This is the second of two contracts to replace deficient bridges and improve traffic flow over the Pamunkey and Mattaponi rivers and through West Point. The project’s deadline for completion is November 2007.

Dumfries Road (Route 234), Prince William County
The Lane Construction Corporation of Meriden, Conn., was awarded a $20.7 million contract to widen more than three miles of Dumfries Road from two to four lanes from Eclipse Drive to Montclair. The intersection of Spriggs Road and Route 234 will be relocated to the west of the existing intersection. This is the final project to widen Route 234 from I-95 in Dumfries to I-66 in Manassas. The project will help ease heavy traffic flow and improve safety. The project’s deadline for completion is July 2007.

East-West Connector (University Blvd.), Prince William County
General Excavation, Inc. of Warrenton was awarded an $11.2 million contract to build a nearly mile-long four-lane divided road extending from Route 29 east of the I-66/Route 29 interchange to the south, bridging over I-66 and connecting to Wellington Road at Rail Line Court. This project will help alleviate congestion on Route 29 in Gainsville by providing commuters another road to Wellington and Linton Hall roads. The project’s deadline for completion is July 2006.

Traffic signal maintenance, Fairfax, Loudoun & Prince William counties
The Brothers Signal Company of Leesburg was awarded a $4.5 million contract to rehabilitate traffic signals in various locations. This is a preventative maintenance program for existing traffic signals. The deadline for completing repairs is September 2005.

Manassas Airport Access Road, Prince William County
Chemung Contracting Corporation of Pine City, N.Y., was awarded a $3.4 million contract to build a two-lane road that will provide access to the Manassas Airport.
