APRIL CTB MEETING BRINGS CONTRACT AWARD TO STAUNTON DISTRICT
Third TAMS Contract Approved for Staunton District
At its April 17 meeting, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) awarded one contract in the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Staunton District. The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties
DBI Services Inc. of Hazleton, Pa. was awarded a $20,493,885.00 contract for a Turnkey Asset Management Services (TAMS) contract. The contract covers Interstate 81 from mile marker 237.5 at the Rockingham/Augusta county line to mile marker 324.90 at the Virginia/West Virginia state line. It also covers Interstate 66 from mile marker 0 at the I-81 junction to mile marker 13 at the I-66 exit 13 interchange in Linden. This contract covers approximately 201 center line miles of interstate.
The five-year performance-based contract may be renewed for up to four years. It includes items such as:
· Roadway maintenance (litter pickup, pothole repair)
· Drainage system maintenance
· Mowing
· Guardrail and sign repair
· Snow removal
· Incident response
VDOT will continue to individually contract major bridge and pavement rehabilitation projects. These will be awarded to contractors on a case-by-case basis.
In 2006, Gov. Timothy Kaine signed legislation that requires all interstate maintenance to be outsourced by July 1, 2009.
The two other TAMS contracts in the Staunton district are:
A $27 million contract was awarded to Infrastructure Corporation of America (ICA) of Brentwood, Tennessee by the CTB on January 16, 2008. The contract covers Interstate 81 from mile marker 173.9 at the Rockbridge/Botetourt County line to mile marker 237.5 at the Augusta/Rockingham County line. On Interstate 64 the coverage area is from the West Virginia state line to mile marker 57.2 at the I-64 and I-81 junction in Rockbridge County. Total miles covered by this contract equals 241 center lane miles.
On July 20, 2006 the CTB awarded TME Enterprises Inc. (TME) of Chesapeake, a $10.8 million contract covering 88 miles of Interstate 64. This contract covers all of I-64 in Augusta County in the VDOT Staunton District, extending from mile marker 100 at the Nelson/Augusta County line to mile marker 87.1 at the I-81 junction.
