Commonwealth Transportation Board awards highway contracts for southwestern Virginia
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently awarded five contracts valued at $14.1 million for the Bristol District. The Bristol District consists of 12 counties in southwestern Virginia: Washington, Smyth, Lee, Scott, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Bland, Wise, Dickenson, Grayson, and Wythe.
W-L Construction & Paving, Inc., Chilhowie, received two contracts for paving: an approximately $4 million project to pave various secondary routes within the 12-county Bristol District and a $2.3 million project to pave various routes in Dickenson County.
A $3.4 million contract was awarded to Cleco Corporation, Rosedale, to reconstruct about one mile of Route 658 in Smyth County, beginning 0.947 mile south of the south corporate limits of Marion to the south corporate limits of Marion.
Patrick Construction, Inc., St. Paul, received a $1.5 million contract to replace a portion of the Route 80 bridge over Prater Creek in Dickenson County. The bridge is located near the intersection of Route 63.
Lastly, a $3 million contract was awarded to Boring Contractors, Inc., Abingdon, to reconstruct just over one mile of Route 609 (Hillman Highway) in Washington County, from 1.07 mile south of Route 704 to Route 704.
